Our journey started with an email from JetBlue that our 5:45 flight had been canceled. We went to the airport around 7:00 to figure out a new flight plan. The only flights we could get from BTV to New York changed our flight to Dubai with a fourteen hour overlay in Dubai and then onto Delhi on January 1st. There went our spending New Year's Eve in Delhi.
We arrived in Dubai around 3:00 PM on the 31st so we decided to take the Metro into the city and have supper.
The Metro was packed with people and during our conversations with other people on the train we were told to get back to the airport before New Year's Eve because we would have a difficult time getting onto a train for the return trip as the crowds would be so huge. This was interesting because the train was packed with people now and we could not imagine how any more people the train could fit in.
Dubai was spectacular, very clean, beautiful buildings, and the prices were reasonable. We found a Sushi restaurant and enjoyed watching the families passing by on there way to the fire works.
We returned to the airport, watched the fireworks occurring in the city from the airport windows, took a nap in lounge chairs, and departed for New Delhi at 4:30 am.
