We spent three days in Delhi. Some highlights of our stay.
Saalam Baalak Trust Tour
This organization works with the Delhi street children. There are over 5,000 children living on the streets of Delhi. The kids run away from their homes (physical and sexual abuse, no families, unemployed) and come to Delhi. They end up begging, stealing, picking up paper, cans and bottles for recycling (boys), drug addicted and the girls become prostitutes. The kids live around the train station because of all the people arriving and leaving the station.
| Kids collect paper, cans, & plastic and bring it here and get paid for the items. Around $0.05/kilo |
About 30 young boys were living at one of the Trust's houses.

Shikh Temple
One of the priests guided us through the temple complex. He explained the teachings they live by. They serve breakfast and supper to 3,000-4,000 people a day for free. When we left the temple we felt that if we all lived by their philosophy we would be a much more peaceful world.
Red Fort
A beautiful fort complex. The inner floors, ceiling, walls at one time were covered in gold, silver, precious and semi-precious jewels. When the British invaded India the troops lived inside this fort. The soldiers stole all of the jewels, gold and silver from the fort. We left the fort feeling sad for the destruction that the British had done to this beautiful Indian site. A real loss to the Indian people.
